Milkiland launches cheese production at Ostrowia

Milkiland started hard cheese production at its Polish-based subsidiary LLC Ostrowia. The first cheese under Ostrowia brand will be available for Polish consumers on July 1.

The plant will produce hard and processed cheese under traditional Ostrowia brand, including of Gouda, Ementaler, Maasdamer, Tylżycki types for the Polish market and under Milkiland brand for exports to Russia and Ukraine, where the Group’s products has been very popular for years, as well as to the EU countries.

“We are happy to expand our product portfolio with hard cheese and propose it to Polish customers under revitalized Ostrowia brand”,commented Robert Mroziński, CEO, Milkiland EU.

“After Ostrowia acquisition, we were hoping for growth in its natural segments, and Milkiland investments to modernize the plant perfectly prepared it for the production of hard cheeses. The plant’s production capacity after the reconstruction is now 15,000 tons of hard cheese and 7,000 tons of processed cheese per year.

With cheese production launched, Ostrowia applies for export licenses to supply cheese to the Russian and Ukrainian markets.

In line with Milkiland’s creed as a social responsible business, we were happy to contribute to the development of local community of Ostrów Mazowiecka town by creating of more than 100 local jobs at Ostrowia”, he also added.

“We are close to accomplishing one of our major tasks for 2013 – establishing of full scale hard cheese operations at Ostrowiain order to diversify our product offering to the CIS and EU consumers.

After the reconstruction, Ostrowia meets all the requirements of the Russian and Ukrainian veterinary authorities and we hope to extend our exports to these countries after the required licenses are received.”

After integrating Ostrowia in 2012, Milkiland also significantly improved its positions in dry milk products (ingredients) segment, since Ostrowia is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities for production of WPC-80 and permeate. The plant is the only producer of WPC-80 in Poland. Those products are mostly exported to EU countries, including Germany and Holland.
